Knitting Is Healthy for Your Brain

annagetsthefabulousbabes:

berlynn-wohl:

"But knitting also works as a natural anti-depressant, as crafters release dopamine while they knit, according to a recent study."

So kids, do crafts, not drugs, if for no other reason than that yarn is cheaper than cocaine. (Probably.)

WHAT WOOL ARE YOU BUYING THAT IS CHEAPER THAN COCAINE?????

(Memegenerator and every other online option to make the meme just wasn’t working out, so I swore a lot and just got this picture of a robin and decided to just make it in photoshop, many apologies.)
Tagged slurs just because of bottom right hand corner of meme.
So back when I worked in an art and craft store, I had a customer come in and ask for ink. I thought she was an artist or something and showed her our ink, she wanted the best quality so I took her over and was explaining away the colours and different sorts of ink for the brand and then asked her what her project was.
Lucky I asked because she turned around and said “Oh, I want to give myself a nice tattoo so I am just buying ink for that.”
I went white and made quite the outburst of “NO NO NO NOT THIS INK YOU WILL KILL YOURSELF NO!” I explained that tattoo ink is very different from regular inks and the inks in our store can harm her and possibly poison her as it is not designed specifically for being shoved under skin. She would need to find a place that specialises in ink for tattoos, but that wasn’t in an art store.
She was white in the face and gasped and said she didn’t know she just thought all ink was the same. We were both very glad she told me what she wanted it for so I could save her from something going horribly wrong.
Not entirely sure if it would have killed her, but it would probably depend on the tattoo, and it would probably cause damage of some kind to her even if it didn’t kill her. Has any other Robins out there had a similar experience with customers like this?

I also work at a craft store, and THE NUMBER OF FUCKING TIMES people try to buy oil paint kits for their preschoolers because “he loves art!” “she’s really good at drawing!” NO. THAT SHIT IS TOXIC. THE WHITE IS MADE WITH LEAD. CADMIUM RED IS MADE WITH FUCKING CADMIUM.
Also, ma’am? If the glass paint does not say you can eat off it, YOU CANNOT EAT OFF IT. “Decorative only” means something, goddammit. Sometimes when they argue, I’m just tempted to let them to win their Darwin Award.
